It is possible for multiple VLANs to be present on the same link, so
merely determining that the host is on the same link isn't really enough
to know that the address is still valid. The issue is whether the host is
still on the same subnet.
This implies of course that a host could have the same access router and
still change subnets. This scenario is becoming increasingly likely as
WLANs deploy VLAN segmentation and sometimes even dynamic VLAN. A "one
armed router" can have a single interface that is present on multiple
VLANs/subnets.
