[DNA-BOF] Signal Quality for MIP handoffs

Dear all,

for MIP handoffs between GPRS and WLAN (IEEE 802.11b) at our department we
have used the signal quality of a WLAN wireless link to determine the
handoffs from/to GPRS and vice versa. The evaluation has shown that the
signal quality is appropriate to define such vertical handoffs.

But only using the signal quality for MIP handoffs is not adequate. This was
the reason that we have definded a hysteresis to determine whether the
signal link is reliable or not. Furthermore, we decided to suppress the
agent advertisements to control MIP handoffs based on L2 information. You
can get more information from the draft
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-iponair-dna-polimand-00.txt which
we have submitted last year.

I would like to discuss the results and would kindly ask the group which
further L2 parameters can also be used to force vertical handoffs in
different bearer systems.

Thanks in advance,
Stefan
